Yes, I’m at the restaurant by myself. I’m sitting alone at a booth for two, nary another human being within twenty feet, munching on calamari and staring at my phone.
You may think I’m sad and pathetic. And perhaps you’re not wrong. But one thing I am not? Is alone.
I’m having lunch with Robin, whose beautiful words made me cry in the middle of a shopping mall right before the memory of watching her blast out a funky hiphop dance while singing “dance, mothafucka!” made me laugh right out loud barely four nights ago.
I’m having lunch with Jen and Jill, who are admiring my choice of calamari with lime and chili sauce for my luncheon entree.
I’m having lunch with Anna and Sarah and Gary who are helping me make my next purchasing decision.
I’m having lunch with Tracey and with Bon and with Lisa, each of whom are making me laugh or think or cry.
I might look like I’m pathetically staring at my phone all by myself at this restaurant. I might look pitiable. But don’t worry about me. I might be by myself, but trust me: I am not alone.

I have lunch “alone” all the time…I’m so glad there are people out in the Internet that get it! So glad to have met you over the weekend. Such an amazing time!
It’s so true. I love that I have friends and entertainment in my pocket, that I can reach out for a little reassurance, share what I had for lunch and make someone else smile.

So glad we were there to keep you company!! I remember when I used to go out just to be alone back when I lived with my parents and family. Yet now I feel funny when I am all by myself, guess we shouldn’t though because sometimes we all need a little bit of alone time to appreciate all the noise around us.
